Rev. RockDog on Drinking

Before I even start this I want to make it clear that everyone who knows me also knows that I am no angel and that I have done more than my fair share of drinking. This more of an informative post. I'm not preaching; simply sharing. Cool?

So, on our most recent show (http://www.blogtalkradio.com/AnnieBurlTalk/2009/03/15/1st-Annual-St-Paddys-Drunk-Show) we wanted to show the effects of drinking.

We've all been drunk before and we all know what happens during the night when you go from sober to drunk.

So we took it one step further and decided to do this in a controlled environment with breathalyzer tests being administered by a medical professional.

The show began by having Annie & Burl take the first breathalyzer test to establish a baseline reading and then immediately follow that with a shot of Patron tequila. Every fifteen minutes we would repeat and record the results. These results can be found at the bottom of the post...

As the show progressed both Annie & Burl reported their impairments such as finding it more difficult to type, some slurring of words, and the general inability to perform normal tasks with ease. As a note, this all happened within the first TWO drinks.

The listeners were then treated to the full range of exaggerated emotion such as anger, excitement, and, dare I say, love. All of this was a direct result of drinking.

The most disturbing moment of the night was after SIX drinks BOTH Annie & Burl were still UNDER the legal BAC in most states (.08) and could have LEGALLY been behind the wheel of a car!

In NY a DWI is issued if your BAC is over .08, and a DUI is given if you blow a .07. SIX drinks in 90 minutes and still legal. VERY SCARY!

Both admitted that at no point did they feel as though they could have driven nor would they have even attempted to, but this should serve as a wake up call to law makers. If they want to save lives, then they need to lower these limits.

I know that there are arguments about body size and alcohol tolerance, but if law makers are really seriously interested in saving lives then hopefully someday they will take notice of experiments such as these and step to the plate.

In 2007, there were 12,998 total fatalities in drunk driving crashes...all of them could have been avoided. Just sayin'...

Special thanks go out to LifeLoc for providing the breathalyzers ( http://www.lifeloc.com ), our good friend Epi_Junky for giving up her time to come into the studio to administer the tests (as well as baby sit the impaired hosts), Jesse from The Woodshed Crew for keeping the time, and Patron tequila (simply for tasting so good).

(Sorry about the formatting on this chart...it's the best that we could do...)
