Annie was discussing with me the other night what my favorite color is. Well, I can tell the rest of you my least favorite is blue. Unless it is in one of my drinks! Blue drinks are exotic & refreshing looking. They sorta remind me of Capt Kirk & Dr "Bones" McCoy imbibing in that cool looking blue Romulan Ale I hope to get my hands on someday. In the meantime check out these recipes below
Sapphire Martini This is an absolute delight that adds a little color and orange flavor to your classic Martini thanks to the blue curaçao. Like the Diamond Martini, one of the characteristics of this cocktail is that the gin and cocktail glass are both frozen.
* 2 dashes dry vermouth * 2 dashes blue curaçao * 2 oz Bombay Sapphire gin (or other premium gin), frozen * lemon twist for garnish
Preparation:
1. Chill a cocktail glass. 2. Add a couple of dashes each of dry vermouth and blue curaçao to the glass. 3. Drop in the gin cubes & let melt. 4. Garnish with the lemon twist.
Yale Cocktail The Yale Cocktail is a classic and has a stunning blue hue thanks to the orange-flavored blue curaçao ( which is the name of a carribean island). It has more orange in it than the original Martini, which used a dash of orange bitters. Ingredients:
* 1/2 oz dry vermouth * 1 1/2 oz gin * 1 tsp blue curaçao * 1 dash bitters 1. Pour the ingredients into a mixing glass with ice. 2. Stir well. 3. Pour the ingredients into a chilled cocktail glass.
Deep Blue Sea Martini This beautiful blue Martini is an excellent addition to any party and its tropical sour flavor is a delight. The Deep Blue Sea Martini is made of vodka (Blue Ice American Vodka), blue curacao, sour mix and pineapple juice. While any orange liqueur you have in stock will do, you will not obtain that blue hue unless you use the ever-essential blue curacao. Ingredients:
* 2 oz Blue Ice American Vodka * 3/4 oz sweet and sour mix * 1/2 blue curacao * 1/2 oz pineapple juice
Preparation:
1. Pour the vodka, sour mix, blue curacao and pineapple juice into a cocktail shaker with ice. 2. Shake well. 3. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
Envy Forget about being green with envy, be blue with Envy. This is a stunning blue cocktail that uses silver tequila (Don Eduardo, Don Julio or similar tequilas are preferred) and blue curaçao. Serve it up in a deep cocktail or margarita glass for absolute eye appeal and consider serving it at your next beach or pool party, the pineapple and orange are perfect for summer occasions. Ingredients:
* 1 1/2 oz silver tequila * 1/2 oz blue curaçao * pineapple juice * maraschino cherry for garnish
Preparation: 1. Pour the tequila into the glass of your choice. 2. Fill the glass with ice cubes. 3. Add the pineapple juice. 4. Stir well. 5. Top with blue curaçao and stir lightly again. 6. Garnish with a cherry.
Something colder looking? Try this....
Frostbite If you're looking for a blue drink that is thick and creamy the Frostbite is an excellent candidate. Use a premium tequila and white crème de cacao (as opposed to brown) for the best results. I prefer to serve a Frostbite on the rocks, filling the glass with cream and turning it into a blue White Russian from south of the border. Ingredients:
* 1 1/2 oz tequila * 1/2 oz white crème de cacao * 1/2 oz blue curaçao * 1/2 oz cream
Preparation:
1. Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice. 2. Shake well. 3. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass or in an ice-filled old-fashioned glass. 4. Garnish with a maraschino cherry. * maraschino cherry for garnish
Too cold looking? Try this old exotic reliable instead: Blue Hawaiian The Blue Hawaiian is the blue version of the popular Pina Colada, splitting the coconut to allow room for blue curacao. There are two versions of this tropical summer cocktail, this shaken or blended. For the frozen one add the ingredients to a blender with 1 cup of cracked ice.
Ingredients:
* 2 oz pineapple juice * 3/4 oz rum * 3/4 oz blue curaçao * 3/4 oz creme de coconut * maraschino cherry for garnish * pineapple wedge for garnish
Preparation:
1. Pour the ingredients into a mixing glass with ice cubes. 2. Stir well. 3. Strain into a collins glass filled with ice cubes. 4. Garnish with the cherry and pineapple.
